We are currently looking for an Executive Director to lead Marathon High and take us to the next level!

​

Job Description

​

Summary: The Executive Director is responsible for overseeing the overall strategic direction, leadership, and fundraising efforts of the organization. This role has a primary focus on school recruitment into the program while also ensuring the success of the North and South Coordinators. The Executive Director leads all fundraising initiatives, manages volunteer recruitment, and represents the organization at key events. Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, this role plays a crucial part in program growth and sustainability.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead school recruitment and outreach to expand team participation across Northeast Florida

  • Guide and support North and South Regional Coordinators to ensure program excellence

  • Develop and execute fundraising initiatives, including grant writing, donor outreach, and partnership cultivation

  • Manage volunteer coordination, including event staffing and community engagement

  • Oversee and promote third-party fundraising events such as Global Running Day, Women’s Night, and PRS Gate River Run Practice

  • Represent the organization at high-profile community expos and races, including the Donna Marathon and Gate River Run

  • Provide leadership in student-led volunteerism and service-based learning opportunities

  • Maintain consistent donor stewardship and ensure follow-up on sponsorships and contributions

  • Report regularly to and attend meetings with the Board of Directors
     

Qualifications:

  • Proven leadership experience in nonprofit management, youth programs, or community engagement

  • Demonstrated success in fundraising, grant writing, and event management

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a seasonally variable work cycle

  • Passion for youth development, fitness, and community building
     

Schedule & Time Commitment:

  • Seasonal position (August–May)

  • Weekly time commitment varies with program calendar; expect increased involvement during recruitment (August–September), training season (October–January), and race/graduation season (February–May)

  • Regular board meeting attendance required (typically first Sunday of month for one hour)

  • Flexibility for occasional weekend and evening events

Compensation: 

Compensation is commensurate with experience. This is a part-time, seasonal position, mostly work from home with an average of 25-30 hours a week. Must have your own laptop and be available some evenings and weekend mornings.

Marathon High is a nonprofit organization that trains high school students, regardless of background or ability, to run a half-marathon. Through running, we teach teens the value of commitment, character, and community. With teams throughout Northeast Florida, our program builds not just runners—but leaders.
